Doctor Who Drabble: Spoilers

Spoilers: Nothing too specific.
Summary: River and the Doctor’s lives are entwined.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.




River’s life is inextricably entwined with the Doctor’s long before he meets her for the first time in the Library, but they’re out of step with each other; that can happen when you’re a time traveller. She was younger than she is now when she first met him, but he was older, or will be. A later regeneration perhaps.


Really he shouldn’t be surprised that she needs a diary to keep track of their meetings, so she knows what it’s safe to tell him and what has to be kept secret. As she’s told him more than once, “Spoilers, sweetie.”

Could River had known if he was going to be ginger?

I'm not sure if that makes sense but that would have been funny if she had whispered that in Tens ear instead of his name.

I don't know, it depends which regenerations drop in on her really. She might have met future regenerations beyond Twelve. I kind of want her to meet Thirteen and call her Sweetie.

I like to believe that Ten was more vocal over the name thing and was keeping the ginger thing to himself. It's conjecture.:)

Yeah. I'm still hoping that the Doctor will be ginger one day.

Me too, but they'd have to get the right actor. Perhaps that's why he hasn't been ginger yet, because they haven't found the right ginger to play him.

We have no idea what else River might have whispered to him. Then again, she might have considered him becoming a ginger would be a spoiler!

Turlough,who played Mark Strickson was blonde but dyed it red for the part.

I can imagine River and Eleven having one of their little quarrels. Her teasing him about it.:)

They do like to bicker like an old married couple.

They'd have to be sure the actor wasn't allergic to hair dye first though.

Yeah, although the Doctor would clash sometimes with someone who was mature as River or Donna, since they have more life experiences compared to the younger companions.

I remember the Fourth Doctor getting a little impatient with Romana.:)

Fourth Doctor: I'll call you Romana.

Romana: I don't like Romana

Fourth Doctor: It's either Romana or Fred!

Romana: Alright, call me Fred.

Fourth Doctor: Good. Come on, Romana.


Yes, I almost forgot about the allergy thing. That was like how they had to change the actor who played the Tin Man in "The Wizard Of OZ" because he was allergic to the paint they would have to put on his body to represent the silver metal look.

It's also why G'Kar's first aide didn't last long on Babylon 5, the adhesive was playing merry hell with her skin if I recall correctly.

Interesting. I heard Jim Carrey wanted to quit playing the Grinch.

I think with some people it's an allergic reaction so they have to stop, but with others it's more claustrophobia, just really hard o cope with all that make-up. Some people can handle it, some can't.

The one I most admired was the late Andreas Katsulas as G'Kar. He was a very good actor without make-up, but in it he really shone. He was, in my opinion, the absolute best actor on B5. Despite most of his face being covered in latex, he put a tremendous amount of emotion into every line. He's sadly missed.

Yes. It depends on the individual. I freak out over my mascara running but that is a really lame comparison.

I only knew of Andreas Katsulas from The Fugitive. I read he died from lung cancer. It is very sad to know of an actors passing.

Yes, he did, he was a heavy smoker I believe. I have the Fugitive on DVD, he was great in that but as G'Kar he was amazing. Such a great voice too.

I can't wear mascara any more, or any eye makeup, I developed allergies to it that made my eyes red and inflamed. =(

The consequences of a bad health choice. It's hard to quit once you start. Although chain smoking can be an issue too.

Aww. That is bad but I'm sure you look fine without makeup too. Looking after your skin is more worthwhile.

I never looked much better with makeup so I figure it doesn't matter. Haven't worn any for thirty years or more.

Yes, mum was a smoker up until her heart attack and then she just quit. I was amazed.

My mum was surprised at how well I taught myself how to wear makeup when I was a teenager. Girl magazines are to thank for that. Although I seldom wear it. Just abit of mascara will do for me if I'm in the mood.

You mum got good discipline there. That must have been hard for her.

Mum had a lot of willpower when she chose to use it.

I learnt some from my sister, she was the one with the teen magazines, I never cared much for them myself. I used makeup when I was at work or on nights out, but the rest of the time it was just too time-consuming.

I could have managed without those magazines. But only when I look back on it.

I was, and surprised because she was a lifelong smoker and she made quitting look easy.

Most of make-up application is common sense, you want it to look natural and not plastered on, but my sister advised me on blending eyeshadow to get a softer look.

She had her moments when we were growing up, when she wasn't conspiring with her friends to lock me in a lightless closet knowing full well I was scared of the dark. It wasn't all bad back then, but she's grown more and more bossy and inconsiderate as she's got older. *shrugs* People change, but not always in good ways.

I have a theory that bossiness comes from being insecure or spoiled. Unfortunately, people closet have to deal with the consequences.

Sometimes friendships can end from similar behavior as well.

The only diary I keep mostly contains my daily writing word counts, lol!
