Summary: Drake looks back on the past year and reflects on how much has changed.

The clock on the wall counted down towards midnight; another year was drawing to a close. Drake thought back over the ups and downs of the last twelve months; the cases they’d solved and those they hadn’t, the relationships that started only to fizzle out, the break-ups, and the depression that inevitably followed. It had been quite a year.


Five… four… three… two… one…


“Happy New Year, Drakey!”


Arms wrapped around him, warm lips pressed against his, and as he returned JJ’s kiss, for the first time in a long time, Drake looked forward to the coming year with hope.

For Drake to end on an optimistic note says so much about his relationship with JJ and how it reflects on his sense of himself.

Awww! That's darling! It's always great to be able to approach a new year with optimism, and it's fantastic for Drake to have found a reason to. :D And JJ's such a sweetheart (it blew my mind, the way he could be simultaneously so annoying and so gosh-darned loveable); he's got himself a keeper in that boy.

I think they're pretty much made for each other. Drake needs looking over, and JJ needs to be needed. He's a very nurturing person, and drake will blossom through JJ's love.

They're easily about as sweet as Dee and Ryo, especially since it took a while for them to find each other; whereas the whole Dee/Ryo thing was almost instantaneous (leaving out how patient Dee had to be). This relationship seems so well-earned.

JJ had to get over Dee before he could really see Drake was the man he needed in his life. Now he has though, there's no turning back for either of them. =)
