Doctor Who Drabble: Words Of Power
Sep. 27th, 2016 06:25 pmTitle: Words Of Power
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Tenth Doctor, William Shakespeare.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 089: Witch at
dw100.
Spoilers: The Shakespeare Code.
Summary: Where there’s a Will, there’s a way.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.
Carrionites are just witches by another name, and witchcraft, magic, is merely a different sort of science. Human science utilises numbers where the Carrionites are all about words.
They hold more power than you’d think.
The right words in the right order, spoken in the right place at the right time, can do anything, even cause the world to end. That’s not something the Doctor is keen on seeing happen. He rather likes the earth and its people.
Earth needs a champion; to fight words, you just need better words, so who better than Shakespeare?
All’s well that ends well.

Not!
Tenth Doctor: Carrionites!
I did like the portrayal of Shakespeare.

Thank you.

I think the "rugged" look worked here.:)
Before, when I thought of Shakespeare, I thought of some dude in tights.
The Doctors real name must be very powerful for him not to reveal it. I doubt his really called "Basil".

Date: 2016-09-29 11:47 am (UTC)In the old days they use "chewing sticks" made of wood. They still have them around.
Martha could have popped Shakespeare a breath mint and kissed closed mouthed?
She had to wait until "42" to snog Riley. His breath must have not been bad.*shrugs shoulders*

Date: 2016-09-29 07:04 pm (UTC)LOL! Yeah, that's an idea!
Poor Martha didn't get a lot of love during her travels.

They addressed it in "Lost In Austen" and "Shakespeare in Love"
Martha got attention but was hesitant because of her crush with Ten.

Date: 2016-09-30 12:02 pm (UTC)I feel so sorry for Martha, giving her a crush on Ten was unfair of RTD, but I guess that's nothing new.

Date: 2016-09-30 01:14 pm (UTC)Lost In Austen does contain elements of SF, "Modern woman goes back in time through magic door" in her apartment.
As for "Shakespeare In Love", I was curious but didn't find it that appealing.*shrugs shoulders*
I had high hopes for Martha. I wish she hadn't been so smitten. But if she hadn't, then she wouldn't have stayed with Ten so long. He really needed Martha's skills to survive during series 3. He was an emotional mess. Is that a term?

Date: 2016-09-30 06:51 pm (UTC)Martha got a raw deal, but she gave it everything she had. She was a much stronger companion than Rose. I doubt that Rose could have walked the earth alone the way Martha did.
Maybe if Lost in Austen comes on TV I'll give it a try, but only then, lol.

Date: 2016-09-30 11:42 pm (UTC)Ten was suicidal lets be honest. Donna saw it the first day they met.
Rose was planning on doing the opposite by making that dimension canon.*is annoyed*
RTD makes the finale where it caters to the companions skills set. Marthas was the most practically trained on top of her academies. I wonder how many times Martha had to spread the word about the Doctor?
Fair enough. I don't expect you to watch. I can still refer to it if relevant. The main actress was very good at her role. The actor who played Robin Hood in DW was in it but he didn't laugh in this one.:)

Date: 2016-10-01 10:10 am (UTC)Martha probably told her story hundreds of times.
When the Doctor goes off the rails, he goes all the way. Martha helped him, but Donna finished the job. Then it was all undone when Donna was gone.

Date: 2016-10-01 01:35 pm (UTC)I saw the actor in this program first so it was wierd when I saw him acting so cheery. But he was good in this too.
Christina Coleman who played the main witch in "The Shakespeare Code" was in it. As well as Alex Kingston who you know as River Song.
In the DVD commentary DT and JB were joking that Martha was like a folk singer, telling stories over and over again. Poor Martha.
The Doctor was very lucky to have had both Martha and Donna in his life. If he hadn't met Donna first then he wouldn't have met Martha who would have died from the events in "Smith and Jones". *phew*

Date: 2016-10-01 06:30 pm (UTC)I was familiar with Alex Kingston from several other things (starting with ER), so I was delighted when she appeared as River.
I think they're right in a way, she had to be like a travelling performer, moving around and spreading the word, never staying anyway long.

Date: 2016-10-01 11:00 pm (UTC)Alex Kingstons most famous role was on ER.
They said a guitar must have been in that bag Martha was carrying around.:)

Date: 2016-10-02 10:09 am (UTC)I always liked Alex in ER, I watched the whole run when it was on TV and she was among my favourite characters, but I have no desire to re-watch the show. Funny really, I loved it at the time but I've moved on, yet there are other shows I'll watch over and over.
I've got Chuck seasons 1-3 and have watched the first disc of season one, it's great fun but very distracting when I'm trying to do other things.
Have you watched Haven? I've been watching that too, it has Jesse from Buffy's opening two-parter in it. He's just the same as back then, only older. I always liked him. Eric something or other, I forget his last name...

Date: 2016-10-02 10:44 am (UTC)DT: So how many times has Martha said this?
(Short pause)
JB: Shes like a folk singer. She sings songs with a guitar.
DT: I bet thats whats in that bag. A guitar.
FA: Leave me alone!
(Pleading)
Their commentary was silly because it wouldn't make sense.:D
I only caught E.R when my mum watched it. There are shows that are timeless and shows that aren't.
I haven't watched Haven but I've seen promos. He was Xanders friend who got turned into a vampire right?
Sorry, I forgot the actors name, I've seen him do guest appearances on a lot of
shows.

Date: 2016-10-02 04:11 pm (UTC)Yeah, that's right, the one who fancied Cordelia. He plays Duke in Haven and I really like him, he's kind of a rogue, a smuggler. Haven's pretty good, it's based on a Steven King story.

Date: 2016-10-06 07:40 am (UTC)"Chuck" is doing its job then but if you are really busy, than I guess you can leave it for later. Season three is when things get even more distracting...

Date: 2016-10-06 11:14 am (UTC)Thats strange that you couldn't get the box set of the entire series since it has already ended.*is baffled*
Usually its marketed that way so its a bargain for the consumer.*confused*
