Summary: They were friends, long ago.

How did they come to this?


Back on Gallifrey, lifetimes ago, they were boyhood friends, inseparable, but staring into the Untempered Schism changed that. It was a rite of passage for all those wishing to enter the Academy to become Time Lords; afterwards, neither one of them was quite the same. It changed them in ways the Doctor thinks they will probably never fully understand.


Now, instead of close friends, they’re in opposition, the Doctor always trying to mend things and people while the Master constantly seeks to tear down and destroy.


From friends to archenemies, where will it end?

Eventually the Master might run out of regenerations, though he hasn't used as many as the Doctor. Until then, they will carry on trying to outwit each other to their own ends.

I don't know, I'm a bit sketchy on the details!

The Master is a very resourceful being. I have no idea how Missy came back. I'm sure it was explained, sort of, but I don't remember *headdesk* I'm a bad fan ;)

Yeah, it must have been hard for the Doctor knowing his dear friend was now his greatest enemy.

You don't have to feel bad about it. I think it was handwaved. The main villains always find a way to survive no matter what the Doctor sacrifices to do it.

At least Missy has personal history with the Doctor.

It's not just in Doctor Who that the writers gloss over things they don't have a good explanation for, I guess. sometimes you just have to suspend disbelief and go with it.
