Title: Destiny
Author:

Characters: The Doctor
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 040: Emerson at

Spoilers: Nothing specific.
Summary: The Doctor is fulfilling his destiny.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.
Self-belief is something the Doctor knows quite a lot about, mostly because he has so much of it. He believes he has a purpose, and that he does what he does for a reason; perhaps the universe itself set him on his course and continues to guide him, sending him where he’s needed. After all, why else would he end up somewhere he didn’t intend to go, at exactly the right moment to save lives, defeat threats, solve crimes, prevent disasters, or free entire worlds from tyranny?
He’s fulfilling the role he was created for, and it’s so much fun!

Date: 2016-03-22 07:52 pm (UTC)The Doctor can be a bit dense, he somehow manages to overlook the fact that it's the TARDIS who takes him where he needs to be.
Thank you!

Date: 2016-03-22 08:05 pm (UTC)And yes, the TARDIS is definitely involved, right along with the universe. She sees things in a way totally different to how the Doctor does....

Date: 2016-03-22 08:25 pm (UTC)The TARDIS has a will of her own, and a great deal of wisdom. She sees all of time and space, like the Doctor, but I think perhaps she's better at seeing where he's most needed than he is.
Thank you!

Date: 2016-03-22 08:34 pm (UTC)Half my plot bunnies come from conversations with people in comments. They're a good source of inspiration.
She really does need to put him in his place!

Date: 2016-03-22 08:38 pm (UTC)Oh, she so does. His own vanity's gonna get him in trouble someday.

Date: 2016-03-22 08:51 pm (UTC)I agree about the TARDIS, and she might be better able to see the Doctor's time line. He would probably not see his own future... which is why she is better suited to place him where he must be.

Date: 2016-03-22 11:16 pm (UTC)Yeah, he's seen so much that it has a cumulative effect. He's weighed down by everything he's done but I suppose he's just learned to set things aside to a certain extent. What's done is done, and it can't be changed. Don't dwell on it. Not that it always works, he does his share of brooding, but he keeps going. Perhaps he's trying to keep ahead of the memories.

Date: 2016-03-22 11:37 pm (UTC)Wow; you've got your hands full! :-O That was me back in December, lol; too much work, and barely enough time. I don't know how I managed.

Date: 2016-03-22 11:45 pm (UTC)And yes, the TARDIS is often the Doctor's guardian, his truest companion. The only one who has been with him through everything. Even if another companion wants to be with him forever, it can never happen. They all find that out in the end.

Date: 2016-03-23 10:52 am (UTC)My favourite is Contest Week at fic promptly where you have to fill as many prompts as possible in a week and there are daily challenges you can attempt too. That really gets the creative juices flowing, I wrote over 34k words in a week last time. So much fun, even if it's a bit manic!

Date: 2016-03-23 11:02 am (UTC)The TARDIS is the Doctor's closest friend and confidante, even if he doesn't seem aware of it. She probably feels everything he feels through the connection they have. True empathy, though it must be one sided otherwise the Doctor would be constantly aware of the TARDIS's feelings when he generally seems to be oblivious to them.

Oh, that sounds like fun! Crazy, but fun. :D

Date: 2016-03-24 11:44 am (UTC)I did that with cottoncandy bingo (which collapsed under its own weight again, the mods have a tendency to bail). When I signed up I just thought I'd be happy if I completed a line, but with about a month to go my brain, which has OCD tendencies, suddenly decided NO! You HAVE to get a blackout. Man, that was stressful. I did it though, my one and only Torchwood AU series used up seven squares for different chapters, another fic filled three more, and the rest were one-shots. Never again!
Crazy is right - I won that one with 65 fills. Basically it's a case of 'Look at daily challenge, hunt through lonely prompts that fit the challenge, write it, post it, find another, write it, post it... Keep going until the next challenge appears, start all over.' Very little else gets done those weeks, but I still have to write for my other challenges as well... o_O Sadly, during the next one, towards the end of April, I have to have a 'procedure' at the hospital which means I might miss at least one challenge, possibly more, which sucks =(

Sixty-five?! Whoa! :-O That's just...wow. *is mind-blown*

Date: 2016-03-24 09:28 pm (UTC)I just got lucky that several squares worked for chapters, it wasn't something I set out to do but it made things a bit easier to complete my card!
To be fair, a couple were 100 word drabbles, another was 150 words, most were between 400 and 700 words, short pieces, but then it's not the word count that matters, it's the number of fills. Normally for Contest Weeks I'm in the 40-45 range, I just really outdid myself on that one. I even wrote a fandom I'd never tried before. only 150 words, but it was something. I'm not very brave with new fandoms, I take so long to get the voices of characters I've not written before..

Date: 2016-03-24 10:04 pm (UTC)I'm sure it did; those cards can be really tricky. So many of mine had me scratching my head; there were some I didn't figure out for months.
That's still impressive! :) Yeah, I get what you mean; I usually get into one fandom, and that'll be the only one I write for. There are still some voices in this one that I'm not quite convinced I have down, where others came easily right from the start.

Date: 2016-03-24 11:41 pm (UTC)I hated my bingo card when I got it, even though we were allowed to veto a few prompts and choose two that we wanted on our cards. I got a lot of prompts I didn't know what to do with. Somehow I managed eventually, but I'm still not sure how I did it at such short notice.

Date: 2016-03-24 11:55 pm (UTC)Wow. I got so lucky on mine; I loved just about everything. The only one I took issue with and ended up asking for a replacement on was 'fire'.

Date: 2016-03-25 11:34 am (UTC)Oh, I love The Monkees! I grew up with them, and Mike Nesmith made some pretty good albums on his own too. I've never read any Monkees fic though.
h/c bingo is a very different animal, fire in h/c is pretty grim whereas in cottoncandy bingo it would be an easy prompt, cuddling in front of a fire. I got 'window' and 'lighthouse' and 'I becomes We' and 'Desert' *sigh* What's fluffy about a window for goodness sakes?

Date: 2016-03-25 09:27 pm (UTC)I keep forgetting how much I love them, and then I get reminded, and it's fun all over again. :D Mike was always the hardest one for me to write.
*giggles* I'm sure there'd be some way for a window to be fluffy. I don't know how--maybe serenading, or something?

Date: 2016-03-25 10:31 pm (UTC)I think Mickey was my favourite. I wouldn't even know where to begin writing them though. I'm most comfortable with Jack and Ianto, and with Dee and Ryo from FAKE. Other I think I'm a bit hit and miss with, sometimes I get them right and sometimes not. I think I did okay with Eleven in the crossover just posted, he's easier to write than Ten for some reason. I'm still working on another crossover with Torchwood that has both Nine and Eleven in it, but it's a long way from being finished. It's over 6000 words so far. Been writing it off and on for several years now.
Good luck, I hope you get a prompt that works!

Date: 2016-03-25 10:47 pm (UTC)Micky was my favorite, too. They're actually how I got into DW; someone wrote a crossover, and I got curious.
Eleven is, far and away, the easiest for me to write, with Five and Twelve probably tying for second. Nine and Ten are tricky, so I don't try them too often. It's funny you should mention a fic featuring Eleven and Nine; I've got a story with the two of them sort of sitting and waiting for me to be inspired. Came from one of those scenario memes, and someone insisted that I do it.
Thanks; I hope so, too. :D (I also hope I can write Jareth. :-/ That's gonna be interesting, trying him out.)

Date: 2016-03-25 11:20 pm (UTC)That's how I got into FAKE, someone who is now a friend wrote a Torchwood/FAKE crossover and it made me curious.
I adore Ianto. I watched Torchwood for Jack but totally fell for Ianto and the Ianto/Jack relationship. I should warn you, Small Problems is quite long, it's a three-parter, but I really enjoyed shrinking them. So much so that I'm writing another one with Ianto shrunk so Jack puts him in his shirt pocket.
I have a bunch of action figures and post pics of them at Christmas having their Christmas party. Someone asked me to write the story behind the gathering of multiple Jacks, Iantos, and Doctors, so that's what my fic with Nine and Eleven in is all about. It's quite complicated because I have 6 Jacks and 4 Iantos!

Date: 2016-03-25 11:39 pm (UTC)I always thought Ianto seemed like a real sweetheart. I've just saved the fic to read later tonight; I'm already looking forward to it. :D Hehe, I'm loving that shirt pocket mental image! That sounds precious.
Oh, that's right; I've seen some of the photos. :D That might actually be what inspired me, when I decorated my room last year for Christmas, to have my figures holding some of the decorations.

Date: 2016-03-26 11:40 am (UTC)The shirt pocket thing started with a ficlet I wrote for slashthedrabble called 'Everywhere I Go'. I liked the tiny Ianto idea so much I decided to continue it and keep Ianto miniaturised for a few days, so Jack has to buy him some dolls house furniture to make him comfy.

Date: 2016-03-26 08:55 pm (UTC)OMG, I'm just adoring this concept! :D That just sounds so cute! Okay, I just had to run over and read it; that's adorable!!! I'm probably saying that way too much, but I can't help it. :D

Date: 2016-03-26 09:32 pm (UTC)I love all the miniature dolls house stuff available, especially the miniature foods. I buy the separate things and make up my own meals when I can. Tonight they've got Cornish Pasties. Half have got mashed potatoes, the other half chips, Some have peas and carrots and some have green beans and tomato slices. I hated playing with dolls as a kid, but my action figures aren't dolls, they're my little people =D
