Title: Like Brothers
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Ianto, Owen, Jack
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 260 – Odd Couples at
tw100
Spoilers: None.
Summary: Friendship takes many forms…
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: This is how I see Owen and Ianto.
An outsider watching them would think Ianto and Owen couldn’t stand each other, and to be fair, it was easy to see how their constant bickering and the snarky insults flying back and forth between them whenever they were in sight of each other, might be misunderstood.
Jack smiled as he watched them, knowing the truth; they would lay down their lives for each other in a heartbeat. For all their squabbling, they shared a bond even deeper than friendship. Although they’d been born to different parents, they were brothers in spirit and would always be there for one another.

Date: 2012-11-14 10:03 pm (UTC)I believe that as well. Through Torchwood they forged bonds as deep as any family's, and all the snark and insults are just how they deal with it.
I remember going to visit a friend of my dad's he hadn't seen in a long time. They spent the entire visit trading insults and putting each other down. As a little kid, and a sensitive one at that, I was shocked! He explained later that's just how some guys relate to each other. That sure was an interesting life lesson!
I can definitely see Owen and Ianto interacting this way all the time, even when things are fine and no one is trying to open the Rift or shoot the other one. :-p

Date: 2012-11-14 10:05 pm (UTC)They are more like brothers than friends, they argue and tease and drive each other up the wall, but when it comes right down to it, they have each other's backs. Jack, I think, would know that. I think their friendship really developed while Jack was away with the Doctor.
I'm having a bumper drabble week now that I've had a bit of time to write them. I have two I probably won't post to

Date: 2012-11-14 11:47 pm (UTC)Of course Jack knows its not malicious and they really would do anything to protect each other. If that wasn't the case he would have knocked their heads together long ago and made them behave!
You should post your other drabbles to your journal, even if they don't make it to the comm. I'm sure we would all love to read them! :-)

Date: 2012-11-15 12:00 am (UTC)I hadn't had time to write as I've been a bit busy the past few days, trying to get some Christmas cards made (I'm trying to make 3 a day), but I had some time today and ended up writing 5 drabbles from the ideas I've been working on in my head while card making, cleaning out the fire etc. Thought I'd post the serious one first, then I have two silly ones, and the pair. I still might write another one, I haven't decided yet. I have more than enough for this week already though. I'd orinally wanted to go a bit AU and try some different pairings - I'd though of John Hart and Tosh, or Adam being a nice alien and falling for Owen, or PC Andy and John Hart (I think they'd make a good couple!), but I had other ideas that I just HAD to write, so I didn't get around to it and now I'm too tired to think. Bed is calling...

Date: 2012-11-15 11:22 am (UTC)Yeah, all the squabbling is so they don't have to admit they care about each other.
