Title: The Ultimate Accessory

Author: [livejournal.com profile] badly_knitted

Characters: The Doctor, any incarnation.

Rating: G

Written For: Challenge 019: Dressed / Undressed at [livejournal.com profile] dw100

Spoilers: General.

Summary: The Doctor has one accessory that goes with anything.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.

His style has changed many times over his regenerations. There’s been velvet and lace, long scarves and floppy hats, umbrellas and pullovers, cricket whites and celery, suits and sneakers, jeans and leather jackets, tweed and bowties, even a fez or two. The Doctor always knows what looks cool; he’s an intergalactic trends-setter with his own unique sense of style, oft imitated but never bettered. It’s a good thing the TARDIS contains such an extensive wardrobe.

But no matter what eclectic outfit he chooses to wear, there’s one thing he’s never, ever without. He simply feels undressed without his trusty sonic.

The End

The Doctor just isn't the Doctor without his trusty sonic screwdriver.

It's like the Doctor and the TARDIS.

The Third Doctor would know how it felt particularly. His lost without the TARDIS. I did find it annoying when people insulted the sonic screwdriver. I guess that was the whole point.

The Doctor: [the TARDIS is gone] It's the Sontarans; they've taken it. I'm stuck... on Earth like... like an ordinary person. Like a human! How rubbish is that? Sorry ...

He must have got flashbacks to being Three.

Jack: Who has a sonic screwdriver?. Who looks at a screwdriver and thinks, this could be a little more sonic?'"

Poor Doctor. Always having to defend his beloved sonic screwdriver.

Donna: Sonic it! Use your thingy!.

Too bad it doesn't do wood.

It's like talking to a self service machine. They still need humans to program them when there's a malfunction. The Doctor keeps hoping he can make a setting for wood though.

Ten: It's like, I've got a sports car, you've got a Space Hopper.

The Doctor got Jack back by comparing the TARDIS to a vortex manipulator.

Nine: Never had a lot of cabinets to put up?.

River Song: Go build a cabinet!

Twelve: Sonic trowel'? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds?

The insults go on and on.

Did Romana have a sonic?.

I like it when the Doctor talks about the inventions he has created. Ten made devices that went "Ding"!.:)

Twelve: I once invented an invisible watch. Spot the design flaw.

In the episode "Horns of Nimon" Romana II built her own Sonic Screwdriver. I had to look it up.

Even the gadgets can't help the Doctor when he reads the situation wrong. He thought Queen Liz was the shape sifter instead of the horse at first.

Nine: I think it's gone a little bit wrong.

Yeah. Just making an observation.:)

Ten: Do you think the real Queen of England would just decide to share her throne with any old handsome bloke in a tight suit?

Ten was being all smug towards Queen Liz. Later on he gets it wrong again and she still wanted him. She probably wanted to use the TARDIS as a weapon to defend her country?.

Maybe making a sonic was part of what Time Lords learned at school?.

The reason Queen Liz wanted to decapitate Ten in "The Shakespeare Code" was not only because he had "jilted" her. He also insulted her lack of hygiene?.

The whole plot was absurd to me. It was like RTD was using left over story lines from "Casanova".
