I like Owen, I really do, and I love the weird sort of friendship he and Ianto have. In a way, they're more like brothers, they argue and get on each other's nerves but when the chips are down, they stand together.
Owen is damaged, like most of the Torchwood team. It's made him defensive and reluctant to get too close to people. Sometimes he's thoughtless and hurts people with his words, sometimes it's intentional, lashing out because of inner pain, but he's neither cruel nor heartless. He's a doctor and his instinct is always to heal, no matter what.
