Title: Father’s Day

Spoilers: Mild for most of the show, including CoE (vague references to characters only).

Summary: Father’s Day means something different for each of the team.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

A/N: For the prompt ‘Variations on a Theme of Father's Day’, one of the prompts I didn’t get around to using for tw100’s challenge 288 last year. I’ve dug them out again to supplement the prompts I got from my f-list, just because there are still loads I wanted to use.

Father’s Day means different things to different people.

Gwen took the day off to visit her parents. It was always a special day for her; she loved her dad and knew he adored her.

Tosh made time to phone her father, wishing him a happy day.

Owen ignored the whole thing. He’d never known his father anyway.

For Ianto, it was a day of conflicting emotions. As a small child, his dad had been his hero, but as he’d grown older, their relationship had been soured by alcohol-fuelled bitterness.

And Jack? He thought of his daughter and felt only regret.

Yeah, most of the team have less than happy family lives. Gwen has it easier than the others, her parents are alive, close enough to visit, and they love her.

Thank you! I intended to post this on Father's Day, but I think it fell either during the bingo madness, or in the middle of a drabble challenge that proved too inspiring, lol!

It's always interesting to look at the different life experiences of the various Torcwood team members; most of them have had more than their fair share of bad times.

2 are positive; 3 are negative and of those three, I think Jack has the worst of it. Nothing about that relationship left anything closely resembling hope for him... you really know how to pull the best out of a prompt or word!

Thank you! Sometimes I just get really good prompts that spark ideas. I remember having a tough time getting this one down to 100 words, the prompt was so emotive and I wanted to fit everyone in.

Jack's definitely in the worst position. Owen never knew his dad, Ianto's dad is gone but he does have good memories of him as well as bad. Jack though, his father is gone and he feels he's failed at beinga father to Alice. So many regrets.

Gwen, of course, has everything.

Yeah, I expect Jack thought of his dad too, but he's the only one of the team who's a parent, he was bound to think of his child and everything he wishes he'd done differently.
