Fic Of the Week - Week Four
Jan. 23rd, 2012 01:50 pmWell here we are, week four, and I'm still managing to keep up. This may be the longest I've ever managed to stick to a New Year Resolution!
Last week's fic, Jack and the Beanstalk, was brilliant, a great re-telling of the old Fairy Tale. I wanted something completely different for this week though, so after a bit of hunting I came across this one from 2009:
A Welsh Holiday, Or, Jack And Ianto Tackle The Plumbing by sierasky. First chapter is here:
http://sierasky.livejournal.com/11792.html
It's another short one, only 7 chapters, but it looks like it should be fun. The moment I came across it, I couldn't resist - and that was just from reading the first sentence!
Any recommendations for fics I could include in my challenge will be welcomed - nothing longer than 20 chapters though, please. I do have other things I need to do during the week; sad to say I can't spend all my time reading fanfic, much as I would like to!

Man in a polyester suit http://crowson75.livejournal.com/19969.html#cutid1 14 parts
To give and forget http://crowson75.livejournal.com/35304.html#cutid1 15 parts
All are long, plot and in places rather kinky. They are all set in the same ‘verse, and although they can all be read as stand alone stories, it works best reading them in order, due to some entertaining OC that occasionally appear.
Post Torchwood stress disorder. http://waldos-writings.dreamwidth.org/48452.html 7 parts.
Or really anything by smallwaldo http://smallwaldo.livejournal.com/tag/torchwood
But especially the What Happens Tomorrow series – which a linked collection of 9 fics all of which can be read individually without the others and will still make sense, most are single part, a couple are 3 or 4 parts, all set series 2.
These are all Jack/Ianto with a series one or two time frame. I can think of a lot of others, that would fall in the 20 chapters or less which are older, perhaps a bit less read fics. Is there sort of fic type/genre that you're really looking for?

Date: 2012-01-23 02:59 pm (UTC)I'm not after specific genres or anything - the only places I draw the line at are that I don't want Jack/Gwen or Gwen-centric as I really find her irritating and I want to enjoy what I read. Also, I have no interest in Miracle and for CoE fics I prefer fix-its. I'm really a confirmed Jack/Ianto girl!
The reason I started this is that I just find it hard to make time to read series - I'm mostly still trying to get caught up with the older one-shots while still having time to read new ones. I didn't have internet until the end of 2008, so there were already 2 years' worth of fics out there when I started, and new stories being posted every day. There are a lot of 'classics' I haven't read, as well as a lot of newer fics I haven't had time to read yet, so I figured if I could just read one series a week, nothing too long, I could at least get through (hopefully) 52 in a year. That still barely scratches the surface, as my To Read list has over 1,000 fics of various lengths on it, but it's a start! So what I'm looking for is anything that my flist considers a Must Read, obscure fics I may have not noticed are of particular interest, but preferably only those that are easy for anyone to access. Even if the recs I get don't get read during my challenge, they will go on my To Read list and I'll get to them eventually. I have a few already on a list to read, but I might not always have time to go hunting for something of a suitable length each week, or I might not find anything in the time I can spare for searching, so it will be useful to have recs available for emergencies and just because I like to know what my flist thinks are the fics I should read. I want to make sure I don't miss out on any of the best fics out there! I'll read any genre, though I'd prefer Ianto to stay alive!

Date: 2012-01-25 12:55 am (UTC)Thank you for that last HOT fic, "Snow Job." I actually read most of it last night when my husband interrupted me, dammit! he wanted to watch NCIS with me. I minimized the page real fast before he came in! lol!
I was about to pass out from the heat. I had to re-focus on a cleaner story...well...TV. :D
I finish the last hot paragraphs tonight. I was still about to pass out. Went back and re-read some parts.
Wow! I liked the smut and the story too. It was so Jack & Ianto the way I can imagine them "playing!"
Edited comment: some parts written unclear. oh GEEZ!

Date: 2012-01-25 11:24 am (UTC)Sorry you're still feeling bad, I just hope that won't last much longer. I remember when I came off Ativan my head was so floaty I literally had to crawl around the house because I couldn't stand upright. Withdrawal can be hell. I know the doctor said you wouldn't get withdrawal symptoms, but it sounds like you are anyway. Shouldn't last long though, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that you feel better soon. *hugs gently*

Date: 2012-01-26 02:29 am (UTC)I think of Jack being the domineering one anyway and hurting Ianto in those...NO WAY...I guess I am just too romantic and abit angsty.
I like reading about them take care of each other, especially Jack doing the taking care of...though Jack has bore so much pain, I like the idea of Ianto taking care of Jack too. :)

Date: 2012-01-26 11:18 am (UTC)I love the fluffy, caring ones and don't really mind who's doing the caring - they both need to be cared for at times.
Here's a couple of slightly kinky ones you might like:

Date: 2012-01-27 11:53 am (UTC)I've read spanking fics and stuff like that, some I like, some I'm not so keen on, but they're not my favourites, though I have found some things very hot that I didn't expect to like. A lot depends on what sort of mood I'm in.

Date: 2012-01-27 11:15 pm (UTC)Oh! I like the sound of that. Let me know if you have or read any of those. ummm! what a turn on!...yes yes I'm a very naughty girl. :D
I like the red unit cap too you mentioned. That sounds fun.
Spankings not so much, but you never know with me...sometimes a fic I don't think I will like, will turn out good.

Date: 2012-01-27 11:34 pm (UTC)I can tell you that the current Fic of the Week 'A Holiday In Wales' has that chocolate ice cream scene which is of the Tied Up And Pleasured variety, so I'm sure you'll enjoy it when you get to that chapter. Yum!
Have to be a bit more careful with Red UNIT cap fics, as a lot of those involve discipline, often including spanking, so they might not be to your taste. Not that I can remember the authors or titles of any of those either, of course. My brain never remembers anything actually helpful.

Date: 2012-01-28 12:12 pm (UTC)Isn't it annoying having a swiss-cheesed memory? So full of holes, it's not funny. I think things keep falling through the holes, lol!
Ooops, no, sorry, the first chapter link is in this post but the other chapters are in the comments on the Week Four Dreamwidth post. If you can't find then, let me know and I'll post them here for you.
