Title: Shelter

Author: [livejournal.com profile] badly_knitted

Characters: Jack

Rating: G

Written For: Challenge 316 – Reverse Fandom – How I Met Your Mother at [livejournal.com profile] tw100

Spoilers: Adrift.

Summary: It doesn’t look like much, but in Jack’s opinion, it’s ideal.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

A/N: Title used was ‘Shelter Island’

It was an unprepossessing island, stuck out in the Bristol Channel, exposed to the elements and frequently battered by storms. Small, windswept, barren of trees, the only things that seemed to thrive there were the hardiest of plants and several species of gull.

But it was isolated, not easily accessible, and still had some more or less intact buildings that could be restored for use. In short, it was just what Jack needed.

With the blessing of the Crown, Flat Holm Island became a sanctuary for the victims of the Rift, their shelter from a world that wouldn’t understand them.

The End

Perfect use of the prompt. Well done.

I dare anyone who knows anything about Jack Harkness to say he's lost his humanity. Yes, I'm looking at you, Gwen Cooper.

It's little glimpses of things like this that make it so appalling what happened to Jack in CoE (the blowup); he may have been alien and from the future, but he was far more human and compassionate than anyone in that farce of a government could ever call themselves. Jack could have used a better 'bedside manner' in dealing with the local LEOs but even that is excusable, considering what Torchwood dealt with but this just beats out even that. Its just too bad that no one really knew what Jack was really like when he did things like this.

This goes with your LIbrary drabble... :D
