“A bookstore? When you said there was a sale on, I thought ya meant clothes, or technology. Been thinkin’ about gettin’ a new stereo.” Dee wasn’t complaining, exactly, but Ryo could have been a bit clearer.
“What’s wrong with books?”
“Nothin’, babe, I like a good book as much as the next guy, although maybe not quite as much as you do, but…” He glanced sidelong at his lover. “Be honest; ya just dragged me along so you’d have an extra pair of hands to help carry all the books you’re gonna buy.”
“Weren’t you complaining the other day that you’d read everything on your bookshelf?”
“Yeah, but you loaned me a couple of yours and I’ve only just started the first one.”
“There’s the whole summer ahead, I thought we could stock up now while everything’s at bargain prices. Something we can read while lounging on the beach, or in the park.”
“Okay, I guess pickin’ up a couple of books for lazy days wouldn’t be a bad idea.”
By the time they left the store a couple of hours later, they were both weighed down with bags.
“Never mind summer, we’ve got enough books to last all year!”
