Doctor Who Drabble: Unappreciated

Title: Unappreciated

Summary: Clara rescues the Doctor. Not that she gets a thank you.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.




“You’re doing it all wrong!” the Doctor complained. “Hold it at a forty-five-degree angle, twist counter-clockwise until the two ends touch, then press down.


Clara sighed, exasperated. “That’s what I’m doing! Now shut up and let me get on with it; there’s no need for you to be so persnickety!”


“Persnick... I am not!” Shaggy eyebrows drew together and the Doctor scowled.


“Yes you are, you’re the dictionary definition.” Clara twisted the lever slowly, lining up the two ends, pressed down, and… CLICK! The lock opened.


“See? Now you’re free.”


“Yes, fine, but that wasn’t forty-five degrees.”


“It still worked.”

It's not just you, the dw100 challenge community picks some very strange words for prompts, I've had to look several up in my dictionary to get a definition I can work from.

It's not necessary to use the prompt word in the drabble, and sometimes I don't, but in this case it seemed a good idea. Clara is a teacher, and Twelve was bound to take offence.

Quiddity is another word I've recently written a drabble for, but it'll be some time before that one gets posted. I'm writing and posting them all in order.

That's understandable.

I can picture Clara's body language as the Doctor tries her patience. :D

I'd like to be a polyglot. They have ways of learning several languages. But I'd be fine just knowing more of the English language in order to be more articulate.:)

Yes, Clara was small but a force to be reckoned with.

I never had any talent for languages. Dictionaries are full of fun words if you want to expand your English vocabulary!

I do have a dictionary/thesaurus. I suppose its a matter of learning a new word/s a day.

That's never a bad idea. Pick a word and learn its synonyms and antonyms as well!

I use thesaurus.com for synomnyms when I'm looking for an alternative word.

Idioms are my friend. I'm co-mod on the fan_flashworks social site, so when there's a new challenge, one of us has to look into all the different uses of the challenge word to help spark ideas for members, and that's where idioms really come in handy. The last one I had to do was Clue. Not one of the easiest.

It is, but I enjoy it. I felt quite honoured to be hand-picked to take over from one of the originals, and I got to nominate someone when the other original mod dropped out for health reasons. Of course, now I'm also co-mod at a challenge community and I run three communities of my own, two writing challenges and my crafting community, so I'm a busy bee.
