Summary: A new crime scene awaits Dee and Ryo.

“Freeze!” The voice snapped out, making both Ryo and Dee stop dead in their tracks. The young police officer holding the gun looked nervous and worried; this was probably the first time he’d ever had to aim his service weapon at a living person. He was by himself, his partner nowhere in sight.


“Relax, kid,” Dee said calmly, “We’re cops.” Hands still raised, he shifted slightly so that the shield clipped to his belt became visible.


“Oh thank God!” Lowering his gun, the rookie had to try three times before he got it into his holster his hands were shaking so much. “I was beginning to think dispatch were never gonna send anyone!”


“Where’s your partner?” Ryo asked. What idiot would leave a rookie by himself at a murder scene?


“He took off after the shooter while I radioed for backup. I wasn’t sure what I should do, figured maybe I should stay with the car and keep an eye on things. I checked the victim but I couldn’t find a pulse. I didn’t touch anything else, I swear!”


Ryo went over to the body. “Single bullet to the heart; he’s dead.”


Dee nodded to the rookie. “You did good.”

He didn't mess up the crime scene and he waited for backup, so that wasn't bad for a rookie.
