Dee hadn’t been best pleased at having the Chief foist the squad’s newest detective off on him. Why couldn’t someone else be stuck with the task of showing the new kid the ropes? Sure, Randy was no eyesore, slim and attractive, but it was the principle of the thing; he’d been doing fine without a regular partner since Mike retired eight months previously, and now he was stuck breaking in a new one? It sucked!


His resentment evaporated the moment he looked into his new partner’s eyes. Dammit, he’d always had a weakness for dark eyes and Randy’s were the darkest he’d ever seen, the irises practically pitch black, giving his appearance a hint of oriental flavor. There was some Japanese in there, almost certainly, a fact that the delectable Detective Maclean soon confirmed. Without even trying, he ticked all Dee’s boxes.


Heart beating a little faster, Dee smirked to himself; maybe it wouldn’t be so bad having a new partner if it meant getting to look into those gorgeous eyes every day.


Okay, he’d take the new kid under his wing, and then… see where they went from there.


He had a feeling they’d get along very well indeed.
