Yeah, Adam ENJOYED what he did to Ianto, which just made it so much worse. He got off on it. He deserved to be forgotten so completely that he ceased to exist.
If you haven't read criccieth's fic set during the episode then you really should. The link is in one of my replies above. She went into a lot more depth about Jack knowing Ianto couldn't possibly be the murderer Adam made him believe he was. Jack knows Ianto too well to believe such lies.
