Title: Sleeping Alone
Fandom: FAKE
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Ryo, Dee.
Rating: PG
Setting: After Like Like Love.
Summary: Ryo is having trouble sleeping because Dee isn’t with him.
Written Using: The dw100 prompt ‘Susurration’.
Disclaimer: I don’t own FAKE, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Sanami Matoh.
A/N: Triple drabble.
The only sounds that broke the silence of the night were the familiar whirr of the air conditioning and a faint, distant hum of traffic. Ryo lay on his back, wide awake, in the bed that had belonged to his parents, the bed he’d been sleeping in for more than ten years. He’d always found it comfortable and comforting, but tonight it only made him feel small and lonely. It seed way too big for him all by himself.
This wasn’t even the first time he’d slept alone since he’d moved in with Dee; despite being partners they didn’t always work the same shift. Sometimes one or other of them would be on second or third shift, working from four in the afternoon until midnight, or from midnight to eight; it was something they were both accustomed to, all part of being cops.
Tonight though, Ryo wasn’t alone because Dee was working; his partner, his lover, was laid up in hospital, injured. It wasn’t serious, not really, not compared to how bad it could have been. Dee had been stabbed in the stomach, but the knife hadn’t gone very deep since he’d twisted to the side as his attacker thrust the blade into him. Still, it was a nasty enough wound to require surgery and Dee would have to remain in hospital for a couple of days.
Ryo rolled onto his side; he knew he needed to sleep, otherwise he’d be useless at work in the morning, but without the soft susurrus of breath that told Ryo his lover was beside him, he couldn’t seem to drift off.
The worst part was that Dee hadn’t even been on duty at the time; he’d been running errands, on his way to collect the dry cleaning.
He’d never expected to get mugged.
The End
