Halloween Pendants

Every Halloween I like to offer the kids a little extra something along with their candy. I had intended to knit some little critters, but I was busy with other things and I never got started, so I decided to whip up a few pendants instead. I got a little carried away... Anyway, I promised a friend I'd post pictures, so here they are.

Glass

Fish

Hematite

Charms

I think I have about 80 altogether. I've had so much fun going through all my beads and seeing what I can do with them.

That's still pretty cool. I always wanted foxes to come around my place in Florida. I had tortoises (endangered tortoises), buzzards, and possums, as well as poisonous snakes. We often could hear foxes but we never saw them.

A few friends of mine have owned parrots. I'm always nervous around them. I always figure they're gonna take a chunk out of my ear.

I haven't ridden regularly in about 30 years, if not more.

I heard foxes in the park this evening when I was walking Merlin. First I'd heard! That park butts up against a creek that runs to various woods throughout and outside town. I've seen an otter run from the creek and into the pond in the park and deer walking into the park, so foxes venturing in there wouldn't be a surprise. I try not to walk there too late in the evening any more though, I'd be too worried about spotting a coyote.

I never had any tortoises live longer than a year. The ones who lived next door to me at my Florida house, we marked them so we could recognize them. A couple of them were probably 30 or more years old from their size. WE were always most excited to see babies!

My friend has budgies currently. She's had them for years (mostly because she doesn't want to break her heart on rats again). She's promised when I move back to Florida that we'll put up a fence for my dog(s).

I have spotted raccoons and possums in the park so foxes following them wouldn't be a big surprise. The deer made nests behind the house I'm living in currently one year - only for one night, though, and fortunately, because this area is pretty traffic-busy.

Yeah. I wouldn't mind having tortoises or turtles but I don't have the time/money to put into a safe place for them to live properly. Awww to the eggs.

One of my friends had a beautiful parrot land on her head when she was outside. No one ever claimed him so he's lived with her for about 30 years now!

I'm not too keen on raccoons - fought with them on the roof a couple of times - but I do like possums. Mostly because they eat ticks and they're so ugly, they're kinda cute.

Traffic is terrible for animals. I always see deer dead on the side of the road when I travel to Kentucky (across the river) and have also seen dead coyotes - as well as raccoons and possums and a very few times, skunks.

Definitely an intriguing stray. The problem is, the bird only likes her in a household of four...plus all the other animals.

I'd just bet the rabbit didn't liek the ferret under it!

Raccoons are kind of dangerous and can be rabid (as opposed to possums, who hiss and pretend to be dangerous - and very very rarely are rabid). I had a young possum eating my cat's food when I was younger. He'd hiss at us and I'd tell him he was silly and no one was going to mess with him. He'd usually hide in a box and hiss from inside it when we (me & my dogs) were outside.

It really is.

Merlin is! well, he's protective in the house. He doesn't like strangers (read: anyone but Mom and me) in his house.

Awwww, Misty. I know you guys are enemies.

Yeah, I was shocked when I saw a video of a woman jumping into a pack of hounds to rescue a fox from them, thinking, "She's gonna get rabies!" Then I heard the accents and realized, Oh, British. Though I applauded her efforts anyway.

Possums are adorable for little golem creatures.

Merlin was probably abused. I think he lived on the street for a while. He's housetrained though - so he did have a family at one point. But he acts a lot like a street dog. I hope Karma will help him - I think he misses Rogue at least on some level.

My friend is a rabbit and small animals fan. She volunteers at the humane society so she can play with the bunnies, ratties, mice and hamsters.

I am very against hunting with dogs. I'm not too keen on hunting in general because I don't care what hunters say, they really have the advantage.

I have had a few rescue dogs - Callie, Chief, Pewter, Vinnie, Merlin, and now Karma. And the dogs I paid for, Frosteigh, Li'l, Dodger, and Rogue. All but Vinnie were Schnauzers. I'm rather loyal to my breed but I'd still love a Border collie if I ever get somewhere I could have that active of a dog.

I can understand that about not having another rabbit or pig. I get too depressed without dogs. When Li'l had to be put to sleep, I didn't get a dog for two years (I lived with my parents then and they didn't want another dog). It was a pretty miserable time for me.

Right. My brother and my nephew both hunt but they don't use dogs. And they do their own butchering and use practically everything.

When I was younger, we also had Lassie and Bruno, another Bruno, Frostie, and Stripper as dogs. All of them died from cars. :(

That's funny that your dog was named Callie, too! I named mine after the character on Blake's 7.

Lassie and Bruno (the first Bruno) were both Border collie mixes. Wonderful dogs. Lassie looked like the famous dog, Bruno looked like a wolf in miniature.

I grew up on a farm until I was 11 - so we had all kinds of animals (including horses, cows, rabbits, barn cats, hamsters, mice, and fish).

Yes, cars are rather horrific for animals in general.

Avon, Cally and Vila were my favorite characters in Blake's 7. I still have a lot of fanzines that one of my friends gave me, somewhere in my Stuff.

Our second Bruno was a German Shepherd mix. He was marked like a GSD but looked more like a heavy hound doggo.

Ours was a little farm (what they'd call a hobby farm nowadays). 5 acres of land, about six - eight cows, the two horses, the rabbits, the dogs and the cats.

Yass, agreed. I was always worried about one of my friends who rode her bike to work every day (rain, snow, what have you) in a busy city. I would actually like to do that here - and my city isn't very busy, and there is a bike path mostly from my home to where I work - but drivers still don't pay any attention to bikes (except me, and I'm usually cursing at the bike riders because they're going against traffic or darting into it or right in front of me).

I have not seen B7 in...a very, very long time (probably back when I first saw it on TV)? I remember very much enjoying the fanzines. I think I have at least one of the paperbacks? (Or was that a Sapphire and Steel paperback?)

The series I want to see again is Robin of Sherwood. *siiiiiigh*

I want another little farm. I doubt I'll ever have the money to do that though, unless my coworker adopts me.

[identity profile] evil-little-dog.livejournal.com 2019-11-16 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
I really want a bike so I could get a trailer and haul my dogs around for long rides. I think that would be a blast! I used to take my two dogs along as passengers when I was much younger in the metal saddlebags. They loved it. I loved it. And it seems like it'd be great exercise (again).

I found the collected Sapphire & Steel dvds at a book & music exchange store. I was very excited and I got it for next to nothing! I've only seen Robin of Sherwood available once or twice here in the States.

[identity profile] evil-little-dog.livejournal.com 2019-11-16 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Merlin and I walk pretty much daily but some days we don't get very far depending on weather. I figure I could get some good pushing in by hitching a trailer to a bike and riding around with two dogs in the back.

I do, too! I really loved that series (or at least the first two seasons of it with Michael Praed as Robin). Robin Hood has been one of my heroes since I was very very little and that visual versino of Robin Hood is my ultimate favorite.

...well, that and Disney's animated "Fox as Robin Hood". Because I think that started my love for foxes.
