Part 1
Ianto’s ears were ringing, like someone was banging a gong inside his head. He really wished they’d stop. Then he heard an even less welcome sound: his sister’s voice.
“What the hell did you do to my baby brother, Harkness?”
“Nothing! I swear this wasn’t my fault!”
Cracking open both eyes, wincing at the brightness of the lights in the treatment area, Ianto squinted past the nurse who was stitching the wound in his side, where a shard of glass from a broken bottle had sliced into him. Never had he been so glad to have developed a spare tyre from eating the cookies and cakes Jack was forever baking; the extra padding had saved him from more serious injury.
Jack was backed up against a wall, hands raised in surrender as Rhiannon prodded him repeatedly in the chest with a stiff finger. He was a good six inches taller than Rhi, and a great deal stronger; he could take down a bull Weevil without flinching, but right at that moment Jack looked terrified. Ianto didn’t blame him; Rhiannon in protective big sister mode was daunting.
“Wasn’t his fault, Rhi,” Ianto mumbled. “Tripped over a cat.”
Yep, typical Torchwood accident.
