They are, I have many things with no monetary value which are priceless for the memories they invoke.
Jack has lost everything from home and has no way of getting those things back, so he replaces them where possible with substitutes. His Bregelnut stand-in means a lot to him, he's carried it for a long time. Ianto is perhaps the only member of the team who would understand how important it is to him.
