Title: Irreplaceable
Fandom: FAKE
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Dee, Mother, Ryo.
Rating: G
Setting: After the manga.
Summary: Dee knows what’s really important in life.
Written Using: The tw100 prompt ‘Valuable’.
Disclaimer: I don’t own FAKE, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Sanami Matoh.
A/N: This one’s a triple drabble.
Dee isn’t rich, and if he’s being brutally honest, it’s unlikely he ever will be since in contrast to his partner, he’s not good at holding on to money. It’s not like he squanders every penny he earns, he has a bit stashed away in the bank for emergencies and is quite capable of saving for something he wants, like a vacation somewhere tropical, but he’s not a penny pincher either. He won’t buy the cheapest alternative just to save a few cents. What’s the point?
As long as he pays his bills on time, after that the way Dee sees it the rest of his money is his to do whatever he wants with, and that doesn’t include buying things as ‘investments’ the way his rival Berkeley Rose does.
Rose’s home is probably chock full of antiques and so called ‘valuables’, a burglar would have a field day there, but aside from his car, and maybe his stereo system and TV, Dee doesn’t own much of anything worth stealing. That suits him just fine; he doesn’t need anything he can’t pay for, not even furniture; he learned to make do growing up in the orphanage, and that’s where any surplus money still goes. Mother has a lot of mouths to feed and Dee doesn’t like to think of any of them going hungry, Mother included. He knows she’ll go without to make sure the kids get fed.
Perhaps because of his upbringing, Dee puts little value on material things. Some of them are nice to have, but it they break or get stolen they can easily be replaced. The same can’t be said for people; they are the only truly irreplaceable things in life. Good friends, family, and the man he loves; in the end, they’re all he needs.
The End
