BtVS Drabble: All Work

Title: All Work
Fandom: BtVS
Author: [livejournal.com profile] badly_knitted
Characters: Buffy.
Rating: G
Challenge: # 47: Holiday/Vacation at [livejournal.com profile] drabble_weekly.
Spoilers/Setting: Between seasons one and two.
Summary: Slayers don’t get to take vacations.
Disclaimer: I don’t own BtVS, or the characters. They belong to the amazing Joss Whedon.

Being the Slayer means Buffy doesn’t get vacations; even during summer break she still has a job to do. She can’t afford to shirk her responsibilities because if she does, all Hell could break loose, and she means that literally. Vampires and demons aren’t big on kicking back and relaxing.

Spending a few weeks with her dad makes no difference; she talks to Giles every day, and patrols every night. Same old same old, just a different location. So much for hanging with friends and having fun. Vamps just love L.A.

On the other hand, at least she’s not bored.

The End

"Your sentence is to work every day of your life."

This'd also result in quite a work ethic and tremendous endurance, but I do agree with you about how run down and exhausted these modern dames would end up, maybe that's why the'd resort to sleeping during the day- pity their job doesn't include a pay check, or so it seems; that's often one of her complaints about it.
For her parents and guardian it's like having an upperclass daughter who, you find out, is called to become a nun, or something like that.
In fact, considering the show's terms for them in the sourcebooks, that's not a bad term for the emotions involved!
