FAKE Triple Drabble: Easter Candy

Title: Easter Candy
Author: [livejournal.com profile] badly_knitted
Characters: Dee, Ryo, JJ, Drake, Commissioner Berkeley Rose.
Rating: PG
Setting: Shortly before Vol. 7.
Summary: To Dee’s annoyance, Rose is trying to buy Ryo’s affection with lavish gifts again.
Written Using: The tw100 prompt ‘Chocolate’.
Disclaimer: I don’t own FAKE, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Sanami Matoh.
A/N: This one’s a triple drabble.

The box of expensive chocolates is enormous, taking up almost half of Ryo’s desk and adorned by an equally huge red velvet bow. It irks Dee just by its presence; there’s no way he could spend that kind of money on candy for Easter, but he knows who can. And has, by the looks of things. Rose is practically made of money, so how’s a lowly detective second grade supposed to compete against a police Commissioner? Days like these, Dee can’t help wondering why Ryo would choose him over that bastard Rose.

But Ryo just sighs and shakes his head when he sees the chocolates, then sort of shrugs, tugging the ribbon off and tossing it to JJ. “Here you go, JJ, add this to your decorations.”

JJ clasps the ribbon to his chest; he’s been coveting it from afar. “Thanks, Ryo!” Doesn’t take much to make the little guy happy.

Opening the box, Ryo offers it to Dee. “Chocolate?”

“Don’t mind if I do.” Dee takes one, tries to hand the box back, but Ryo shakes his head.

“Pass them around; I don’t much like that kind, they’re too sweet.”

Suddenly Dee feels much better. Rose knows so little about Ryo that he bought him chocolates he’s not even going to eat. He grabs a second chocolate, passes the box to Drake, telling him to share them around, which pretty much guarantees getting an empty box back. Returning to his desk, he pulls something out of the bag on his chair.

“Happy Easter, Ryo.”

Dark eyes light up at the sight of the simple Easter egg. “I haven’t had one of these for years! Thanks, Dee.” Opening it, he breaks off a piece and sits at his desk, munching away happily.

Dee grins. Dee Laytner 1, Berkeley Rose 0.

The End

Woot! Ryo knows what real value is.

Rose is never going to win this one. He needs to just admit defeat.
