Double Drabble: Formalities
Title: Formalities
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Andy Davidson, Jack, Ianto, Team.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 488: Swear at
tw100.
Spoilers: Nada.
Summary: Now he’s been given the grand tour, there are only the formalities to deal with before Andy officially becomes a member of Torchwood.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: This one’s a double drabble.
“Welcome to Torchwood, Andy Davidson.” Jack held out his hand for the other man to shake.
Andy quickly wiped his sweating palm on the leg of his trousers before accepting it. “Thanks for having me. I mean choosing me…” He flushed, suddenly flustered; everything was happening so fast. This morning it had been his day off from work, and now just like that he was switching jobs.
Jack laughed. “I know what you mean, but if you’re offering…” He trailed off with a wink, which just left Andy even more flustered.
“So what next? Do I have to fill in paperwork? Swear an oath of secrecy or something?”
“Paperwork, yes; Ianto will walk you through that, he’s a stickler for it. As for the oath, that’s covered in the paperwork; you’ll be required to sign the official secrets act, since what we do involves matters of national security.”
“I s’pose that makes sense.” Andy nodded. “Protecting Cardiff from aliens and all that.”
“Oh, it’s not just Cardiff. Sometimes what we do is in defence of the whole world.”
“Seriously?” That was a daunting thought. Andy glanced at the handful of people around him. “I think you need a bigger team.”

I would have loved it if Andy have had a bigger role in Torchwood.:)

Thank you!

He should of had a crush on Tosh, not Gwen.

We were suppose to see Torchwood through the eyes of Gwen. But I would have much rather it had been conveyed through Jack for a more balanced view of the Torchwood team. It was his spinoff after all.
It didn't have to be exactly like how Rose meet the Doctor.

I totally agree. I can think of other
Sci-Fi shows that handled an ensemble cast effectively as well.
I wish RTD hadn't been so insistent in making Torchwood all "doom and gloom so why bother letting the audience get emotionally invested in these characters".
I don't know if it had something to do with Torchwood having a shorter lifespan than other shows.*shrugs*

Precisely. In my opinion it was done better on Angel. Even though I hated that everyone dies at the end of a cliff-hanger because the show got cancelled.

Oh really?!
Well technically the stories have carried on in comic form. I don't know how though.

Me neither; I haven't bothered with the comics, they seem to be Buffy/Spike and while I love Spike, I'm a Buffy/Angel shipper. I used to get the comics as graphic novels, the ones set during the series, but that was when I belonged to a now defunct book club.

Angel: I’m getting the brush-off for Captain Peroxide. It doesn’t necessarily bring out the champion in me.
Buffy: You’re not getting the brush off. Are you just gonna come here and go all Dawson on me every time I have a boyfriend?
Angel: Aha! Boyfriend!
Buffy and Angel was the doomed romance, while Buffy and Spike was intense for all sorts of reasons. I don't like to compare.

Buffy [To Angel] We’re not friends. We never were. And I can fool Giles, and I can fool my friends, but I can’t fool myself. Or Spike, for some reason. What I want from you I can never have.
Spike was better at giving advice on love than practicing it. He was infatuated with Buffy when she was in a dark place.
I just like their banter when they were trying to insult each other.:)

I still want Angel to regain his mortality (for keeps this time) and settle down with Buffy. The love they had for each other should be rewarded.

Angel and Buffy's romance was short-lived.:(
no subject
They did, they were hilarious.

Too bad it couldn't be like Lois and Clark where they were destined to live happily ever after.
I think Buffy found it easy to open up to Spike or at least be direct with him. There were too many obstacles between Buffy and Angel. Damn curse!
Well, at least we got the spinoff.

Buffy didn't have to worry about hurting Spike's feelings.

I love that idea.:)

I have an idea for a Doctor Who/Due South fic but my muse isn't working in that regard.

Yeah. I try to go with the flow. I've had ideas while I'm daydreaming whilst folding the laundry or watching TV at home etc. Certain keywords can trigger a scenario.
Thank goodness for subtitles.:)

I'm lucky that I can wait until I get on my laptop. The scenario comes first before the characters. If I try to think of an idea the other way around, it doesn't work for me.

Most of the time when I start to write for a prompt I have no idea what I'm going to write. I just find a starting point and start typing to see what happens.

Yeah, I sometimes do freestyle writing.:)

A bigger team would have its pros and cons. For now Andy will have to kearn that sometimes a small team can get the job done just as well.
