Doctor Who Drabble: Why Him?
Title: Why Him?
Author: badly_knitted
Characters: Mickey Smith, Rose Tyler, Ninth Doctor.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 197: Green Day, using Why Do You Want Him at dw100.
Spoilers: Season One.
Summary: Mickey can’t offer Rose the things the Doctor can.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.
Mickey had never thought of himself as the jealous type, not until he’d come along. The Doctor. All he’d needed to do was grin that cheesy grin and Rose had gone with him, not so much as a kiss goodbye for her boyfriend. Because Mickey was that, wasn’t he? He’d thought so, but now he had his doubts.
He wanted to ask Rose, ‘Why do you want him and not me? What does he have that I don’t?’ but he already knew the answer. The Doctor was Rose’s way out of her dead-end life. Mickey could never give her that.

Poor Mickey but no one can compare with the Doctor.

Thank you!

Mickey had better character development than Rose did too.

Unlike someone else.*cough Rose*

At least there was no spinoff of that.
I'd rather one of Mickey in cartoon form for the kiddies.*possibly overthinking this*

Oh yeah. We never got to see him in Torchwood! That could of been interesting.:)
I think Martha was easier to place because of her connections with UNIT. I liked the part where Martha and Jack talked about the Doctor.
I think Jack pointed upwards in regards to the Doctor.:D

I think Martha can get along with almost anyone. But I see your point. There was a hint of jealousy from Gwen at first over Jack.

Gwen was very flawed. It took her far too long to get over Jack. I guess RTD likes to make characters like her because they create more conflict.*shrugs*

Sorry, she just really gets on my nerves,

No worries, sometimes I bring up Gwen because she irritated me and ranting is how I deal with it. I wanted more out of her character.

The snippets we got of the team were better than all the Gwen stuff and I wanted more but of course it was RTD's style of storytelling that ruined the concept of Torchwood.
Gwen was practically immortal as Jack.*scoffs*

We only learned things about the other characters right before they died. What a waste!

It's crappy when you emotionally invest in these characters and they get killed off so easily because of the writing.
I don't bother with continuing to watch a show if I know in advance that my favourite character is going to be killed off.
I only stuck with Torchwood to the end for Jacks sake.

I felt betrayed because RTD had said the Jack/Ianto fans would love it, that their relationship would get deeper. Lies!

You didn't miss out on anything. I have a feeling that a lot of environmental factors came into play for how RTD wrote the script.

It's a shame that a reboot isn't happening. Just imagine if they had one with River Song?
no subject
A reboot would have to be done with different actors though, and they might not recapture the chemistry that JB and GDL had.

True.
Usually it is best to start fresh. In some cases, new shows have stories that allude to past shows. On the show Supergirl, the governmental organization created following Superman's arrival on Earth reminds me of what Torchwood was created for.
no subject
I wouldn't want them to completely start fresh, there's so much about Torchwood that I loved. Really it was just the focus on Gwen and her life that annoyed me because there was so much that could have been done about all the things that came through the Rift. S.F. potential wasted in favor of soap opera. =(

Okay. The theme is like a metaphor for real life political and immigration issues.
Well, maybe if RTD had a different type of leading lady or central character, it could have been better. Maybe a guy instead. Too bad that ship has sailed.

No wonder it didn't work. You can't make comparisons between these two shows.
Oh Rusty!*shakes head*
