Summary: Owen wonders why he reacted so badly to Diane leaving.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

Owen looked around his apartment in disgust; empty bottles lay everywhere, a few half-eaten takeaways scattered among them. How had he let this happen? Even after Katie he’d had enough pride to keep his home in order but since Diane flew out of his life he’d really let himself go.

He’d only known her a matter of days, but he’d fallen hard. She’d been the first person he’d allowed himself to really care for since Katie, but even so, her leaving shouldn’t have destroyed him like this.

Had Bilis Manger manipulated their emotions more than any of them had realised?

Neither did I until I started writing the drabble. It's funny the way insight crops up when you're not expecting it. We know that Bilis tried to influence the team to open the Rift - and succeeded - but when did he start manipulating them? Was he the one who caused Diane's plane to get set adrift in time? He wanted to distract Torchwood; if he had anything to do with Diane showing up, then he succeeded with Owen.

We will never know which is a shame. I bet he did. I wish RTD had continued that story line. Too bad Tosh was sidelined in that episode.

Torchwood is a mess of missed opportunities when it comes to storylines. There's so much that they could have followed up on tp make the show deeper and richer in its own mythology, but it just gets glossed over or ignored =(

It's hard to decide just how far his influence went. Was he responsible for Diane and the others arriving in Cardiff? Did he somehow make the team's reactions to certain events stronger and more all-consuming? Was he trying to drive a wedge between them? Divide and conquer? It's an interesting idea to play with.

With all the reboots going on with American Sci-Fi shows, I wish someone would consider doing one for Torchwood. Only if there is a guarantee to make it decent.

Of course. But that means that most of what happened would have to be a dream because RTD destroyed the Torchwoods headquarters.
