He's about hit rock bottom, he'll start climbing out of the pit soon. The drinking is more of a problem than the relatively mild drug that he took a single dose of just so he wouldn't bring his host's party down. The thing is, he doesn't believe he deserves to feel happy so the rest of the drugs he'll probably forget about. Drinking doesn't make him happy because he can't really get drunk. Touch of self-abuse there, but he's not getting any worse, thankfully.
