Taking Ryo’s hand in his, Dee twined their fingers together and smiled. “This is nice; we should do it more often.”

“What, go shopping together?”

Dee’s smile grew wider; Ryo was being his usual oblivious self. “No, this, you dope.” He held up their joined hands.

“Oh.” Ryo flushed slightly. “What if someone sees us though?”

“Everyone who matters already knows, including Commissioner Rose, and no one’s ever said anything,” Dee pointed out.

“That’s not really the point. If we got reported…” Ryo trailed off.

“We’d deal. What’s the worst that could happen?”

“We’d be assigned different partners, or one of us could get sent to a different precinct.”

Dee sighed and released Ryo’s hand. “Secret relationships suck.”

“It won’t be this way forever.”

“Not thinkin’ of retirin’ yet, are ya?”

Ryo chuckled. “Of course not.”

“That’s okay then.”

Later that night as they were lying together in bed, legs entwined, getting their breath back, Ryo reached for Dee’s hand, his fingers sliding easily between his lover’s as though they’d been designed to link together that way. He lifted their joined hands to his lips, kissing Dee’s knuckles.

“Why don’t we get out of the city for the weekend? We could go somewhere no one knows us.”

“Sure, if you want to. Why?”

“Because then we wouldn’t have to worry about the wrong people seeing us together and we could hold hands as much as we want.”

Dee smiled, leaning in for a kiss. “I like the sound of that.”
