Rating: G
Setting: After Like Like Love.
Summary: Bikky meets a young fan.
Written Using: The dw100 prompt ‘Sign’.
Disclaimer: I don’t own FAKE, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Sanami Matoh.
A/N: Double drabble and a half, 250 words.
“You’re him, aren’t you?” an awed voice asked. “Bikky Goldman Maclean, Center for the Clippers!”
“That’s me,” Bikky replied, looking down at the young boy from his towering six feet seven inches.
“Wow! You’re even taller than I thought you’d be! Could I have your autograph?”
“Sure, kid.” Bikky was happy to sign autographs, especially for the younger fans; it was all part of being a pro. “What’s your name?”
“Ryan. I want to play basketball when I grow up, but my dad says not to be silly; I’m too small.”
“Just because you’re small now doesn’t mean you always will be. I was short for my age until I was fourteen, then I started to shoot up, I was forever growing out of my clothes. Just make sure you eat all your veggies and drink plenty of milk. You never know what might happen in the next few years.” Bikky signed his name to the programme Ryan handed him. “There you go. Like my dad always told me; dream big. You won’t know what you can achieve unless you try. Maybe some day I’ll be asking you for your autograph.”
The boy grinned up at him, eyes shining, and Bikky knew he’d made Ryan’s day. Sometimes all kids needed was some encouragement, just one person to tell them it was okay to aim for the stars. No one’s path through life was set in stone; hard work and self-belief could work wonders, and Bikky was living proof of that.
