Yes, the females fed on blood while the males drink nectar, I believe. I take allergy pills all the time so my bites usually aren't too itchy but they can get quite big.

I'm always rescuing insects of various kinds, especially butterflies, moths, and beetles. The only beetles I don't like are cockroaches (for obvious reasons) and vine weevils, because their grubs eat the roots of my plants.
