Wishing a Very Merry Christmas to all of you who celebrate it, and Happy Holidays to everybody else!

May the peace and joy of the season be with you all, not just now but throughout the year ahead *hugs you all in a giant group hug*

And to keep my own Christmas tradition, here are all my boys, including a new Jack (right hand side at the far end) enjoying their Christmas dinner. Hope all of you are enjoying (or have enjoyed) a feast of your own, whether with friends, family, loved ones, pets, or all of the above!

Dinner 2016 (1)

Be happy!
Hello, friends! I'm seeking beta assistance for an as yet unknown number of fics for [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_fest. So far I have one just under 2k ready for betaing, and there will be at least one more which I haven't started writing yet, but more likely two or three as I'd like to do the weekly prompts for the Fest as well.

If anyone can offer their services, basically to check I haven't made any silly mistakes or missed a typo or two, please either comment below or send a PM.

Also, please consider joining in the fun by writing for the fest. There are prompts at this post, no sign-ups necessary, as well as weekly prompts, or you can just write something else winter themed. as long as it's Torchwood, it's welcome!

Come join us!

Next week, posting begins for the December fest at [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_fest! (I know, it's not YET December, but it's pretty close!)

We'll have plenty of fic and art for everyone to enjoy and we encourage everyone to come join us!
Thank you to all of you who sent hugs, good wishes, and a lovely virtal gift, you really helped me get through today *hugs*

Well, as I already told most of you, the prep didn't go too well, I managed most of the first litre, barely slept last night, and I still felt full this morning so I only got through half a litre of the second lot. I called the hospital to discuss matters and they suggested I go in anyway and they'd see if the test could still be done.

Battled my way there (by taxi) through pouring rain and traffic jams, then found all the doctors were running late, so I was sitting around in a hospital gown and thin hospital dressing gown, in a chilly room and had to dig out my cardigan again to stay warm for an hour and a half. Oh joy. I didn't want to be there and then I had to wait. Good thing I took a book with me.

I was not knocked out for the test as I'd expected, just sedated enough to relax me, but everyone was very nice and they let me keep my crystals with me, and... honestly, it wasn't terrible. What surprised me though was being told I'd done an excellent job with the prep, so I'm really glad I didn't chicken out and cancel. I will say it's odd being able to see your own insides on the monitor the doctor uses though...

Apparently, everything was perfectly fine, which is good news I guess, something else ruled out. Spent an hour in recovery, with water and biscuits, then had to wait half an hour for a taxi and got stuck in traffic all the way home. But then my friend, who's staying tonight, popped out and got chips, so that was a nice treat. I rarely have them =)

Not quite caught up online yet, but I got my writing done - three drabbles this morning, two more this evening - and posting is done. My streak is still unbroken!

Still things I want to get done before bed, so I'd best get on with it.
Just a quick heads up to everyone out there to let you know I might not be around tomorrow. I have a test scheduled at the hospital, assuming all goes well with the prep for it (which starts at seven this evening and continues at godawful o'clock in the morning - seriously, I'll have to get up at five in order to be awake enough to start drinking the second litre of stuff at six). My appointment is 2.35pm. That means leaving here no later than 1.30pm because I have to be there half an hour before.

I might have time to post something in the morning, if I feel up to it, or I might be able to post somehing and answer comments after I get home, but I'm not counting on that because I'll be sedated for the test and could be quite groggy after. We shall see.

Of course, if I can't drink the prep stuff for any reason, I might be here as usual, in which case please to disregard this message ;)

Anyway, wish me luck, if you're so inclined, and hopefully normal service will resume by Tuesday.

Thanks to my anxiety problems, I am, of course, terrified and would gladly cancel right now, but I suppose I should at least try *wibble*

Come on, fellow Torchwood fans, [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_fest needs more prompts for the winter fest, we only have four so far and three of those are mine! You don't need to be a member to leave prompts, and you don't need to commit to writing anything, but if you have a winter themed idea you'd like to have written for you, get on over and leave a prompt at the Prompt Post Here.

Your Fandom Needs You! Help keep Torchwood alive by prompting!

It's that time again, fellow Torchwood fans - the awesomeness that is December Fest! Prompting is now open, so come on over and leave prompts, see what prompts others are leaving, and think about what you're going to write - we need all the writers and prompts we can get!

twf banner.jpg

Prompting has opened for the end of the year fest!

Join for an end of the year fest! We'll need prompts from everyone, betas to look over pieces, people to make art or fanfic, and people to enjoy the fan works when posting opens in November! So it doesn't matter what you like to do, we'll need everyone for something.

See our info post here.

Hope to see you there!

I've finally taken the plunge and my new multi-fandom drabble community is up. It's called [livejournal.com profile] drabble_weekly.

Come and check it out - there's a post for Questions and Suggestions, and one for Tag Requests, where you can ask to have tags created for any fandoms you might like to write in, and suggest any other tags you think might be useful.

The first challenge will be posted tomorrow, and as it's a new community, Challenge 1 will run for two weeks to allow members to join and participate. Challenge 2 will be posted on September 3rd.

All fandoms, original fic, and rpf are welcome, so if you like writing drabbles, this is the community for you.

Hope to see you there!
Hello, my wonderful F-list, I come before you seeking assistance, if any of you lovely people can spare the time.

Both my dear friend [livejournal.com profile] m_findlow and myself need betas for our latest [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_fest fics, which have to be posted to the community by the end of the month, so there's not a lot of time left. [livejournal.com profile] m_findlow's fic is around the 10,000 word mark and ready for beta. I'm still working on my fic but should have it finished in two or three days. It'll be shorter, probably no more than 3,500 words at most, but it does include something creepy crawly, so beware!

If anyone can help us out, then please either leave a comment here or PM us directly. I'm willing to offer Torchwood (or possibly other fandom) drabbles or ficlets as rewards to anyone who can help us out at such short notice. *puppy dog eyes* Pretty please?

Home Again!

Jul. 7th, 2016 04:25 pm
Home at last! Actually got home half an hour ago, but I had to do stuff before firing up my computer and sitting down.

Well, that wasn't too bad. Left here just before 1.30 for my 2pm appointment, checked in at 1.40, was told to take a seat and wait for my name to be called, but got called before I could sit, and was on my way out just before 2. The test was uncomfortable, but bearable even if I might have been walking funny when I left.

There's  no taxi rank outside the treatment centre though, so then I had to walk all the way around to the hospital's main entrance, where the taxis live. Got one right away and had the driver drop me off near the shops because I wanted to get some fruit. He dropped me further up the road than I usually ask to be dropped because there was a convenient space, and because of that, I walked past a shop I've never seen before - must be pretty new. All sorts of ethnic stuff, incence and wiccan things, and best of all, crystals! So I spent too much money in there, but managed to have enough left over for fruit.

This is the first time in years I've been able to sort through crystals and handle then before buying. Such a treat, I'll definitely go in there again. Popped round the corner from there and got locally grown strawberries, nectarines, cherries, and some more rhubarb to cook, then walked home, about a fifteen minute walk. Thankfully it didn't rain on me, but I was hot and tired when I got back so I indulged in an ice cream from the freezer. They've been in there since we had a hot spell in May, I've been too cold since then to feel like eating them.

So now I intend to look at my new crystals, and then slob around for the rest of the day. I'm tired and I ache from walking and carrying heavy fruit, doesn't take much to set the aches and pains off. Doesn't matter though. I'm home, just got to check with the doctor in a week for the results. Not a bad day, all things considered.

I'm Back!

Jun. 27th, 2016 09:47 pm
Im back from my hospital test, things went much better (and quicker) than last time, I was home by about half past eight, but I'm still woozy from the sedatives so everything I do is very slow. Parts of my brain have yet to wake up, I think. They did give me two chocolate chip cookies before they let me leave, so that was nice. Now I just have to wait a couple of weeks for the test resuts.

At least that's the worst thing out of the way. Hopefully I won't need another gastroscopy any time soon.

Thanks to all my friends for sending good thoughts and luck, I'm sure that helped a great deal =D
Hi, friends, is there anyone who could do a quick beta on a short piece for [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_fest ? Just need to check it reads okay and that I haven't missed any typos. Posting begins at the start of next month and despite all my challenges, I wanted to write something for the Summer Fest.

Anyone who has time to write, check out the prompts list - more writers are always welcome!
Leaving in a few minutes for my hospital appointment to have a tube shoved down my throat. Needless to say, I'm dreading it so wish me luck and think of me please!

Don't know if I'll be back online again today or not. The 'procedure' is at 6.40, then I'll need some recovery time, but if all goes well and there are no complications, I might get to come home. Here's hoping. *wibbles*

So, I saw this meme thingy on a friend's journal and it looked like it could be fun.

Comment with a number, and a pairing/two or more characters, and I'll try to write you a ficlet or drabble.

Pick a number, any number... )

[livejournal.com profile] torchwood_fest's Summer Fest is open for prompts!

Here's what our lovely host [livejournal.com profile] alafaye has to say.

So let's have a fest to kick off the summer.

I'm going to model it off the last fest we held in December -- we'll gather prompts from the community and also have weekly prompts. That worked out best for everyone, I think. The only difference is that this won't be seasonal at all. Want a winter holiday fic? Okay. Want something summery? Okay. Want it to have no theme at all? That's okay, too. This fest is just to get some new fic going on in here. I'm also hoping that if I give you more time, we'll have some longer length fics. So, details.

Prompting is open!
May 7th: Prompting closes
May 14: A post will go up where participants can register their interest with a form and which prompt they are most likely to use (prompts can be used by any number of people, no worries) *This post will remain open until June 26th.
June 12th: Fest posting opens
July 16nd: Fest closes; final master list goes up.

So, who's willing to leave prompts and/or write fic? Please consider either or both, it would be great to have more people participating this time.

Prompt post is here.

Hope to see you there!

So, who else fancies signing up for [community profile] genprompt_bingo with me? It looks like it could be fun, and it's pretty low pressure for a bingo...

Am I crazy? After cottoncandy_bingo, I said Never Again, but hey, you only live once, right? I'm quite excited by the idea. Of course I haven't signed up yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to, so if someone else did too it would be nice! Can I tempt anyone?
It's been a year since mum passed away, a year of sadness, stress, worry and health problems, but also a year of great friendships, new challenges, and an awful lot of writing. Last year alone I wrote 303,140 words!

I've learned a lot in the past year about what I'm capable of achieving when I try. I've discovered that living alone, while it can be lonely at times, is also okay. In some ways, I never really feel that alone because everywhere I look are reminders of mum. She and my dad moved into this house a couple of months before I was born, I've lived my whole life here, and while not all the memories are good, most are.

I still miss mum every day, there are so often things that I wish I could tell her or show her, just to see the look on her face. I tell her anyway, because who knows, maybe she can still hear and see.

Life goes on though. I promised her that I would be okay, and despite everything, I'm keeping that promise with the help of my friends.

I don't know what the next year will bring, but I want to thank all my many friends here online for your support and friendship over the past year. You helped me get through some very difficult times and I can't thank you enough.

So here's to another year of friendship; hopefully the coming year will be happier and less stressful for us all - I know I'm not the only one who's had a rough time over the past twelve months. But if we can find at least one thing each day to be happy about, we'll be okay. Sometimes one happy thing is all that's needed, so I wish you all a year full of happy things. *hugs*

Love you all!

It's nearly that time again, the end of the old year and the beginning of the new. As most of you know, this year hasn't been the best for me so I'm hoping next year will be an improvement.

I wish all my dear friends, my readers, and all your loved ones a healthy, happy, and peaceful New Year full of good things. May all your dreams come true!

I love you all, thank you for all your support and friendship throughout 2015. I'm looking forward to another year of friendship and hopefully better times in 2016 *Group Hug*

I haven't taken photos this year, so here's another one from last year's photo shoot!

New Year's Eve Party

There's a new community in town and it needs your support!

How many words does it take to beat the black dog? Let's find out.

Beat The Black Dog beattheblackdog is a community to support all those writers who struggle with depression, who've battled depression in the past, or who know someone who is trying to beat the black dog. It's also for the readers, whose support means so much to writers.

There's a weekly writing challenge, and a support centre for people who are struggling, to enable them to connect with other writers and share their stories. There'll also be a running tally of how many words are written.

Please help support us! Share the above post with your friends, and if you know any mods for other communities who don't mind giving us a shout out, that would be fantastic too!

Is there anyone still around who'd be interested in betaing one of my fics for December Fest at [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_fest?

So far I'm working on two, they're due for posting by January 2nd so there's plenty of time still, and the fics aren't finished yet. Looks like both will be 2000+ words each, and there's always a chance that I might write more for the Fest, so I'd like to line up a beta or two in advance if I can.

Also, come on writers, there are festive prompts going begging for December Fest, so if you think you might have time to write something Christmassy, then get over there. It's very relaxed, you don't need to claim a prompt or sign up officially, just write for any prompt that catches your eye. Prompt post is here. Fills only need to be 500 words or over, that shouldn't be too hard to fit in!
